The Word of God Lesson 2

The Word of God

Reformation Truth
Martin Luther translated the Bible into German so that everyday Christians could read God’s Word.  He used the original Hebrew Old Testament and Greek New Testament, translating them into the common language of the people in the simplest and most complete way that the original text would allow.  Luther was opposed by the Roman Catholic Church of his day, but was steadfast in his desire to allow God’s people access to the Biblical text in their own language so the Spirit of God could work and strengthen faith in people.

The Reformation is alive and well at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
We, at St. Paul’s, are people of the Word.  Our pastors are trained in Greek and Hebrew so they can teach the sense of the biblical text.  We are people who use the Bible in worship, Bible classes, family and private devotions.  We are thankful to God for allowing us to own and read the Bible in our native tongue, and are dedicated, through our Synod’s mission work, to bring God’s Word to others in their native tongue.  We live the prayer found in one of Luther’s hymns, “Lord keep us steadfast in Your Word.  Curb those who by deceit and sword would wrest the kingdom from Your Son and bring to naught all He has done.”
